Success is your choice…
My mother in law came to stay with us this weekend. You may remember me mentioning that my family, are fans of “X factor,” well my mother in law is a “Strictly Come Dancing” fan. Fortunately the programmes do not clash so we did not have to make a choice on which one to watch.
I remember my business coach explaining to me that success is a choice. If you had to make that choice what would it be, and how would it affect your business?
My business coach went on to explain that some business owners choose to be successful and do all that it takes to be successful, whilst others make different choices and don’t enjoy the same success.
When the economy was in melt down 18 months ago some businesses went bust, some survived and others grew despite the climate. When this was investigated closer it transpired that those business owners whose goal was to survive the downturn, did just that, they just survived or worse still went bust. However other business owners in the same sector doing exactly the same thing chose to grow their business and it did.
The main difference between the two groups is the choices they made. One group were driven by that four letter word FEAR or False Evidence Appearing Real whilst the other more successful business owners, were driven by hope and optimism. It makes you realise how sometimes our choices are based on fear.
Here is a great question that takes fear out of the equation.
“What would you business look like if you knew you could not fail?”
Who would you call?
How many potential clients would you call?
How many potential clients would you email/write to about your products and services?
How many people would you employ?
Where would your business be based?
What would you do that you are not doing now?
What would you do differently if you choose to grow your business into the largest and best in your sector?
What is clear by asking the above questions of you and your business, is that your underlying choices dictate your behaviour. So what choices would you go for X factor or Strictly Come Dancing?
